Israel: Medical staff member receives undiluted vial of COVID-19 vaccine
Despite receiving five doses in one shot, man reportedly feels well and released home
A medical staff member in one of the HMOs in central Israel received an entire vial of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against COVID-19 by accident, outlet N12 reported Tuesday.
The man received a dose that amounts to five to six regular doses in one shot, and in addition, the vial was not diluted.
The official guidelines of the vaccine are to receive one dose and then another in 21 days.
Following the incident, the recipient was transferred to hospital for supervision but after feeling well he was released this morning to his home, according to the report.
The Health Ministry confirmed to N12 the incident and said that an investigation into the matter will be held.
The Jewish state launched its immunization scheme on Sunday, as some 30,000 people have already been vaccinated throughout the country, Hebrew media outlets reported.
Further, more than 200,000 inoculation appointments were scheduled in HMOs across the country.
Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said he was “satisfied” with the speed of the vaccination process, saying he is “aware of problems in scheduling appointments. They derive from the remarkable demand of citizens who understand the importance of getting vaccinated.”
