Palestinian Yacoub Shaheen, 23, on Saturday won the title of "Arab Idol" in the fourth season finale of the popular singing competition, beating out two other finalists.
Shaheen has been singing since he was a child. His family enrolled him in the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in the West Bank, where he developed his vocal talents and learned to play the clarinet, Oud , Buzuq, and Percussion instruments.
His talent has been widely recognized within the Palestinian community, where he won the title “Star of Palestine” in 2005 and in 2012 won first place and the title of "Palestinian New Star" at the New Star Palestinian talent show.
Shaheen has also participated in music festivals in Jordan, Italy and Sweden.
He beat out Arab-Israeli Ameer Dandan, 26, from the northern Israeli village of Majd al-Krum.
Dandan won the title of "Palestinian New Star" in 2010, as well as several other singing competitions in his youth.
The 2013 season was won by Mohammed Assaf, a Palestinian from Gaza.
Born to Palestinian parents in Misrata, Libya, 23-year-old Assaf grew up in the teeming Khan Yunis refugee camp in southern Gaza before winning the 2013 edition of Arab Idol.
His victory sparked scenes of jubilation across the Palestinian territories. The week after he won, Assaf performed in front of some 40,000 fans in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
UNRWA, the United Nations' Palestinian refugee agency, named Assaf as its first youth ambassador in the region, characterizing his victory as "fantastic."

Yaacoub Shaheen is an Aramean from Palestine! Would be nice if you'd mention that in the Article :)
