Azerbaijan launches artillery attacks against Armenia
Azerbaijan accused Armenian forces of sabotaging positions along the countries' shared border
Azerbaijan launched military operations against Armenia early Tuesday, according to the Armenian Defense Ministry.
"At 00:05 am (2005 GMT) on Tuesday, Azerbaijan launched intensive shelling, with artillery and large-caliber firearms, against Armenian military positions in the direction of the cities of Goris, Sotk and Jermuk," the Defense Ministry said on Twitter, naming areas along the southern border with Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan said that Armenian forces sabotaged Dashkazan, Kalbajar and Lachin along the Azerbaijan-Armenia border earlier at night.
"As a result of urgent measures taken by our units in order to immediately prevent these acts, a battle took place," the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry said.

The ministry also reported casualties among its forces, although it did not give an exact number.
Armenia said Azerbaijan was spreading disinformation with its claims, labeling them as "completely false."
This comes nearly two years after six weeks of fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is controlled by Armenian-majority separatists despite being within the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan.
Thousands died in the conflict, which ended in a Russia-brokered ceasefire and territorial gains for Azerbaijan.
The two countries also fought a war in 1990 over the region, sparked by the fall of the Soviet Union.
