The Islamic State group had planned an attack targeting the French delegation to the Rio Olympics, French intelligence revealed on Wednesday, Le Libération daily reports.
The plot was disclosed by a leader of the French intelligence services during a recent government hearing on May 26, but the report was only published on the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Very few details were included but General Christophe Gomart said that the information about a suspect who is a Brazilian national was shared with the French intelligence agency DRM "by their [international intelligence] partners"
Brazilian authorities are on high alert ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro from August 5 to 21.
They say more than 80,000 security personnel will police the Games. That is twice the number deployed at the last Olympics in London in 2012.
The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for deadly attacks on civilians in various countries.
Authorities suspect many of its followers are radicalized and recruited online.
