The Anti-Defamation League published new figures this week showing a worrying rise in propaganda drives of groups preaching a white supremacist ideology on US campuses.

Recording instances of flyering campaigns and other publicity drives, it revealed that the phenomenon has grown semester-on-semester since they started monitoring it. More than half of the 313 incidents recorded in the 2017-2018 school year happened during the spring semester.

This represents a 34% increase from the year before, targeting states across the US. Although the impact of these campaigns is difficult to measure, it provides so-called 'identitarian' groups with visibility.

Institutions in Europe and the US have warned against a resurgence of the far-right white supremacy movement on the coattails of the alt-right, with its well-oiled and dynamic social media machine.

A new report by Germany's intelligence service has also revealed that there had been a 71.4% rise in anti-Semitic violent incidents in 2018. Nine out of ten cases can be blamed on right-wing extremists, according to another interior ministry report.

The German intelligence agency also said it is monitoring a rise in the number of far-right activists, who now number 24,100 - with half of them with the potential for violent action.

This comes parallel to electoral success for parties across the West that espouse a nationalistic agenda, often with anti-migrant and xenophobic rhetoric.
