The proposed bill, introduced by Congresswoman Betty McCollum is co-sponsored by 9 other Democrats.

US Democratic Congresswoman from Minnesota, Betty McCollum has introduced legislation that would require the US Secretary of State to certify that no part of the annual US military aid package to Israel is spent on detention of Palestinian children.

“This legislation highlights Israel’s system of military detention of Palestinian children and ensures that no American assistance to Israel supports human rights violations,” Congresswoman McCollum said.

“Peace can only be achieved by respecting human rights, especially the rights of children,” she continued. “Congress must not turn a blind eye the unjust and ongoing mistreatment of Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation.”

Palestinian children who are suspects in crimes and acts of terror and are not citizens of Israel are by default, processed in a military court system. Nevertheless, McCollum’s bill calls for Israel to instead use “a juvenile justice system in which Israeli authorities do not discriminate between the treatment of Israeli and Palestinian children.”

The proposed legislation, referred to as the “Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children Act,” is co-sponsored by Democratic Congressmen Mark Pocan, Earl Blumenauer, André Carson, John Conyers, Jr., Danny K. Davis, Peter A. DeFazio, Raul Grijalva, Luis V. Gutiérrez, and Chellie Pingree.

According to McCollum’s website, organizations backing the bill include American Friends Service Committee, Amnesty International USA, Center for Constitutional Rights, Churches for Middle East Peace, Defense for Children International - Palestine, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ, Jewish Voice for Peace, Mennonite Central Committee, Presbyterian Church (USA), the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, United Methodists for Kairos Response (UMKR) and United Methodist General Board of Church and Society.

Then introduce a bill that stops aid to families of Palestinians that kill Israelis

Normally would support except that JVP is behind the bill -- so I have to wonder what secret agenda is buried in the bill.

Jacque: introduced and passed. Read about the Taylor Force act. Passed unanimously.
