Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), the freshman Bronx lawmaker who is expected to win her seat by more than 40 points, criticized the Democratic Party for incompetence in an explosive interview in The New York Times.

She claimed in the piece published Sunday, that she tried to offer help to swing-district Democrats running for congress, but was turned down in nearly every case. Ocasio-Cortez further maintained that she has been "begging the party to let me help them for two years."

The congresswoman also warned that if President-elect Joe Biden's administration does not put so-called progressives in top positions, the party would likely lose big in the 2022 midterm elections.

While much of the world focuses on the battle for the White House and incumbent US President Trump's ouster, one of the untold stories of the 2020 elections is the internal strife currently gripping the Democratic party and its direction of travel.

The Democratic Socialist of America member effectively declared - with her interview - that the internal moratorium, which has held since 2015 and was implemented to defeat Trump - is at an end.

Ocasio-Cortez "sharply rejected the notion advanced by some Democrats that progressive messaging around the Movement for Black Lives and the Green New Deal led to the party’s loss of congressional seats in last week’s election," according to the Guardian.

Instead, the congresswoman explained that the party lacked "core competencies" to run campaigns.

She also claimed that progressive policies don't hurt candidates, ignoring evidence that several of her colleagues nearly lost races that should not have been close because of the association with the Democratic party.
