Trump takes swipe at immigration 'from shithole countries'

US President Donald Trump's professed willingness to talk with Kim Jong-Un is a further pivot from his often-belicose rhetoric on the North Korean leader
US needs immigrants from Norway, not Haiti, El Salvador and the African continent, Trump reportedly suggested

Referring to immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and the African continent, US President Donald Trump took a swipe at "people from shithole countries," during a meeting with lawmakers, the Washington Post reported on Thursday.

"Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" Trump reportedly said, suggesting suggested the US could benefit more from immigration from countries such as Norway.

The comments came at a moment of frustration during a discussion of the visa lottery program with Democratic lawmakers.

On Wednesday Trump lashed out at the US judicial system as "broken and unfair" after a judge blocked his decision to end a program that protects so-called "Dreamers" from deportation.

Since he kickstarting his presidential campaign in 2015 by branding Mexican migrants "rapists," Trump has made tackling illegal immigration from Latin America a key plank of his politics.

He has promised to build a "wall" on America's southern border with Mexico and tackle violent Hispanic gangs at home.
