A federal judge in New York Monday compelled the personal attorney of US President Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, to unmask the identity of his previously unnamed third client, which was revealed to be Fox News Host Sean Hannity.
Cohen’s lawyers had revealed only two of the three clients Cohen represented between 2017 and 2018, as part of a lawsuit Cohen filed to prevent the FBI from using information obtained from a raid on Cohen’s residences and office.
During the hearing on Monday, Senior United States District Judge Kimba Wood stated that Cohen’s legal team could not suppress the name of the third individual, especially whilst deciding whether certain information could be suppressed from the FBI.
“I understand that he doesn’t want his name out there, but that’s not enough under the law,” Wood said.
After some wrangling with the judge, Cohen’s team revealed the name of the Fox News host.
Hannity, for his part, was quick to own up to the charge. "We have been friends a long time. I have sought legal advice from Michael," he wrote in a statement.
The two other clients represented by Cohen were Donald Trump and Elliott Broidy, who recently resigned over reported payment to a Playboy playmate of $1.6 million to keep an alleged affair secret.
