Around 90,000 evacuated due to the Hawk Fire in Nevada
The fire, fanned by the wind, is described as having “extreme behavior” and has already destroyed more than 15,000 acres, thousands of homes, and injured several people.
Authorities in Nevada ordered the evacuation of around 90,000 residents on Sunday in response to the rapid advance of the "Hawk" wildfire, which is threatening the city of Reno in the western United States.
Declared on Saturday, the fire has already burned and destroyed more than 15,000 acres (6,000 hectares) of land. It is located about 5 miles (8 kilometers) northwest of Reno, an urban area with more than 280,000 inhabitants.

According to local media, the flames have already destroyed several homes located in the mountainous areas and injured six people, including three rescue workers.
The government website InciWeb, responsible for monitoring fires, describes a blaze with “extreme behavior.” Images released by firefighters show large columns of smoke and flames on the hills overlooking the city.
In response to the magnitude of the threat, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency in Washoe County. The local fire chief, Richard Edwards, called on residents to be ready to leave their homes immediately as soon as an evacuation order is given, or even to leave preemptively.
“The Hawk Fire is a very dynamic event for us because it is being fanned by the wind. Wind-driven fires spread very quickly to our residential areas,” the chief warned.
Reno is located in the northwest of Nevada, near the border with California and the tourist area of Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra Nevada.
