Secretary of State Marco Rubio's office is directly planning a memorial for the American victims of October 7, i24NEWS learned.
Ruby Chen, father of fallen Israeli-American Itay Chen, said he had been pushing the American administration to hold such a memorial. The American Jewish Committee, which is helping organize the event, confirmed it will be held on September 30, three days ahead of the Hebrew anniversary of the massacre.
Ronen Neutra, father of slain Israeli-American Omer Neutra, said there may be additional meetings with government agencies during the visit in an effort to seek justice. The State Department said it had no comment.
At least 46 American citizens were killed on October 7 or in the subsequent hostage-holding by Gazan terrorists. Other American hostages slain by Hamas included Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Gadi Haggai, Judith Weinstein Haggai, and Omer Neutra.
Keith Siegel, Sagui Dekel-Chen, and Edan Alexander were also taken as captives but were freed during hostage negotiations.
Approximately 1,200 people were killed by Hamas on October 7, with roughly 240 people, both alive and dead, being abducted and taken into Gaza.
