Trump approval hits second-term low as most Americans oppose Iran war - poll
According to a New York Times/Siena poll, nearly two-thirds of voters say the decision to go to war with Iran was wrong

President Donald Trump's approval rating has sunk to a second-term low of 37 percent amid the ongoing Iran war, according to the latest New York Times/Siena poll.
Nearly two-thirds of voters said going to war was the wrong decision, including almost three-quarters of independents. Less than a quarter of all voters said the conflict had been worth the costs.
Sixty-three percent of voters, including 27 percent of Republicans, said the president should not be able to use military force without congressional approval. A majority, 52 percent, said Trump should not resume military operations against Iran if a deal on its nuclear program could not be reached. However, 70 percent of Republicans said military operations should resume if no deal were to be reached, and 73 percent expect the war to successfully eliminate Iran's nuclear program.
Regarding the US economy. Sixty-four percent of all voters disapproved of Trump's handling of the economy. The share of voters rating the economy as "poor" has risen 11 percentage points since January, with nearly half of all voters now giving it the worst possible rating. Even Republicans were evenly split, with roughly half saying the economy was only fair or poor.
The share of Americans saying the US was on the right track fell five points since January, from 37 percent to 32 percent, driven largely by a 12-point drop among Republicans. Only 28 percent of voters said Trump had handled the cost of living well, a drop of six points from January and 14 points among Republicans since the start of the year.
