U.S. Army Chief of Staff to step down with immediate effect at Hegseth's request
Gen. Randy George is the latest in a line of top military officials ousted by Hegseth

U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Thursday requested the Army’s Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to step down as the United States wages a war against the Islamic regime in Iran.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed George’s departure, saying that the Army's top officer would be “retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately.”
“The Department of War is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation. We wish him well in his retirement,” Parnell added.
George is the latest in a line of top military officials ousted by Hegseth, including former Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. C.Q. Brown, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti, and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Slife.
In a public address Wednesday, President Donald Trump offered no end date for the engagement, forecasting more military action.
“We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks,” Trump said of Iran, before adding that “we’re going to bring them back to the Stone Ages where they belong.”
