US intelligence indicates that China is preparing to deliver air defense systems to Iran in the coming weeks, according to a CNN report from Saturday, amid ongoing efforts to end the war between Washington and Tehran.

The report, based on three sources familiar with recent intelligence assessments, said there are indications Beijing may attempt to route the shipments through third countries in order to conceal their origin. The systems under consideration reportedly include shoulder-fired anti-air missiles known as MANPADs.

US President Donald Trump addressed the report on Saturday, warning that “if China does that, China can have big problems.” He did not elaborate on potential consequences.

The reported development comes as the United States and Iran concluded high-level negotiations in Islamabad on Saturday after failing to reach an agreement to end their six-week war. If confirmed, the potential transfer of air defense systems could affect the strategic balance of future negotiations.
