Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz held a security assessment Sunday evening to discuss a novel problem facing Israel from Gaza: drone, balloon and kite launches. Netanyahu and Katz warned that continued launches could trigger intensified IDF action against those responsible and evacuations from areas used to carry them out. “We view every launch as an act of war in every sense - and anyone who organizes, launches, or enables the launches will be dealt with immediately and with the utmost severity," Katz said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged on Sunday that Iranian society is going through a particularly difficult period, despite many of Iran’s other people claiming the contrary. I am aware that our society is currently facing many difficulties… We are wholeheartedly striving to overcome inflation, subsistence problems, and unemployment, and to secure the future of the people so that they can live in dignity and pride," the Iranian president said in a speech broadcast on state television. Pezeshkian also directly criticized American policy, accusing Trump of imposing “the most crushing or most formidable sanctions on Iran.” READ MORE FROM SUNDAY

Syria, Israel hold high-level security talks under US mediation, hosted by Jordan

A senior Syrian delegation led by Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani met Sunday with a high-level Israeli delegation in Jordan under US mediation, a diplomatic source at Syria's Foreign Ministry told state news agency SANA

The talks, which also included the heads of Syria's General Intelligence and Military Intelligence services, followed recent Israeli strikes on Syrian territory and aimed to establish mechanisms to halt Israeli attacks and revive negotiations toward a security agreement

Syria stressed its sovereign right to rebuild its army and choose its alliances, rejected any restrictive arrangements, and reiterated that the occupied Golan is Syrian territory while calling discussion of its final status premature

Damascus said its immediate priority is Israel's withdrawal to lines held before Dec. 8, 2024, and the reactivation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, with the talks also addressing efforts to prevent Turkey-Israel tensions from spilling into Syria

The European Union High Representative and the Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas formally condemns Israel’s E1 West Bank settlement plan

In the statement, Kallas says the project “fundamentally harms the prospect of the two-State solution;” a sentiment shared by British Foreign Secretary Edward Miliband

“The EU position is clear: Israel’s settlements in the West Bank, including in the E1 area, are illegal under international law.” They are now urging Israel to withdraw its tender and hard the E1 plans

Kallas also noted the record levels of settler violence, but noted recent charges brought against the settlers by Israeli prosecutors

US Treasury Sec. Scott Bessant levied new threats against Iran ahead of a presser today to announce new sanctions meant to ‘sever every economic lifeline that sustains the tyrannical regime’

In a post on Sec. Bessant warned, “We are now entering the endgame,” adding that “At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary.”

The secretary praised Trump for creating the conditions to “leverage every agency, every authority and action many assumed we would never summon.”
