Palestinian Authority envoy Riyad Mansour told i24NEWS that the US decision to deny visas to the PA delegation for the UN General Assembly would “backfire” by drawing more sympathy for the Palestinians. He said remote communication would allow the PA to remain engaged with officials in New York despite its delegation’s absence. Mansour blamed Israel for the visa denials and said PA President Mahmoud Abbas would address the American allegations behind the decision in his UN speech.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Election Committee disqualified Arab politician Sami Abu Shehadeh’s Knesset candidacy for “denying Israel’s existence,” as well as Communist candidate Ofer Cassif for "support for an armed struggle by an enemy state or terrorist organization against the State of Israel." Zelensky meets Syrian President al-Sharaa on UNGA sidelines
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
In a post on X, Zelensky noted that Ukraine and Syria restored diplomatic relations a year ago at the same UN gathering, and claimed that over the past year, the two countries have seen "political, economic, and security momentum," including dialogue at the leadership level.
This comes as Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the UNGA to discuss easing tensions between the two countries.
