Gen. Dan Caine reportedly warns escalation options could backfire and airpower alone may not achieve Trump’s goals
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine has privately urged senior Trump administration officials to seek an “off-ramp” from the war with Iran, warning that available options for further military escalation could backfire, according to three sources familiar with the discussions cited by CNN.
Caine has argued that airpower alone is unlikely to achieve President Donald Trump’s objectives and has raised his concerns in recent weeks with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance, two of the sources said. The discussions come as administration officials increasingly view the conflict as having reached a crossroads.
