US removes Syria's designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism; al-Sharaa thanks Trump | LIVE BLOG

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Iran had tried to kill one of his sons, though he gave no details on when the alleged plot occurred, which son was targeted, or how close it came to being carried out. He made the claim in a telephone interview with Israel's Channel 14, responding to reports that a security agency had refused to provide protection for a political rival ahead of Israel's October 27 general election, in which his coalition is trailing in polls. "Iran tried to murder one of my sons, and therefore this security protection is not a luxury," Netanyahu said, adding that he had told Shin Bet chief David Zini that appropriate security should be provided for any prime ministerial candidate.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Monday that it had killed Mohammad Abd al-Nasser Jabr Abu Asaad, a member of Hamas's elite Nukhba force, in an airstrike overnight in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, he had participated in the October 7, 2023, attack against Israel. The strike also targeted a second terrorist who had also taken part in the attack, but he reportedly survived. The IDF stated that the two terrorists had continued to plan attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and were attempting to rebuild Hamas's capabilities. READ MORE FROM MONDAY
