Lebanese PM urges full Israeli withdrawal, warns of security vacuum after UNIFIL

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the war was forced on Lebanon and called for a full Israeli withdrawal, stronger Lebanese military capabilities and a continued international presence in the south. “The war was not something we wanted or chose,” he said in an interview. “Our goal is a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.”

Salam warned that the end of UNIFIL’s mission could leave a security vacuum in southern Lebanon, saying, “We will still need an international force in the south.” Turning to relations with Iran, he expressed a desire for a fresh start: “We want to open a new chapter in them.”

US withdraws bombers from Britain over suspected Iranian-backed plot

The US military returned all 12 B-1 bombers stationed at RAF Fairford in Britain to the United States following threats of an Iranian-backed plot to attack the base, The New York Times reported, citing two US officials. The Pentagon confirmed the withdrawal but did not disclose the reason.

The move comes just a week after a serious security incident was thwarted near the military facility, which was used as a base for strikes against Iranian missile sites that attacked ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Suspect shot dead in southern Syria following suspected infiltration into IDF security zone

The IDF announced it had shot a suspect in southern Syria following a suspected infiltration at an outpost in the security zone. Following identification, soldiers fired toward the suspect and eliminated him, no IDF injuries were reported.
