Haas plays the heroine in Netflix's 'Unorthodox' mini-series, which received 8 nods

In a historic first, an Israeli actress was nominated Tuesday for the prestigious Emmy Awards 2020 for Lead Actress in a Limited Series.
Shira Haas starred in the "Unorthodox" mini-series featured on Netflix which tells the story of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish woman in New York who flees to Berlin from an arranged marriage.
Haas uploaded a video to Instagram showing her excitement upon hearing the news.
“I heard the crazy news just like you,” Haas told outlet Walla News. “I am in shock, still trying to digest, find the words. But thank you so much, I am really grateful, and sending you lots of love.”
The Israeli actress will face tough competition as Cate Blanchett (Mrs. America), Regina King (Watchmen), Octavia Spencer (Self Made) and Kerry Washington (Little Fires Everywhere) were nominated in the same category.
Unorthodox was nodded for eight nominations in total, including Best Limited Series.
Other nods included HBO’s “Watchmen,” topping the nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards with 26 nominations.
