A suspicious package found at Germany's finance ministry in Berlin on Wednesday contained explosives, Reuters reports, citing German police.

"The package contained an explosive mix," Berlin police said in a statement. "It was designed to cause severe injuries when the package is opened."

German news outlet Bild said the package was addressed to Federal Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schäuble.

Bild further said wires were visible during an X-Ray of the package.
