The UK's Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) wrote on Thursday to the Green Party of England and Wales asking for clarification on the recently passed motion, "Zionism is racism."

Will the UK Green Party’s anti-Zionist stance alienate British Jews?

The EHRC wrote to the party seeking "more information to assess the motion's practical implications and potential impact."

The EHRC said that it had received complaints relating to "unlawful activity under the Equality Act 2010, including concerns that Jewish people could face discrimination because of their beliefs following the adoption of the motion."

The watchdog said that it would "take action where appropriate," but said that doing so would "likely to hinge on the practical effects of the motion."

The Green Party responded, saying it would "not discriminate against or exclude people for holding Zionist views," adding that it was committed to tackling antisemitism.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism also wrote to the EHRC, calling on it to investigate the party for discrimination against Jewish party members, saying, "We will not stand idly by as extremists hijack a political party and make antisemitism its openly stated policy."
