UK prosecutors: Golders Green stabbing of Jewish men was hate crime, not terror

Following an investigation, counterterrorism police said that there was no evidence of a terrorist connection to the stabbings in April

The UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is treating the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green in April as a hate crime and not terrorism, British media reported on Monday.

Essa Suleiman, 45, was arrested by London’s Metropolitan Police on suspicion of attempted murder shortly after allegedly stabbing Shloime Rand, 34, and Norman Shrine, 76, on April 29, 2026.

At the time, police said they would investigate any potential terrorism connection to the stabbings which occurred in an area with a large Jewish population.

Following the investigation, counterterrorism police said that there was no evidence of a terrorist connection to the stabbings.

On Friday, Suleiman was charged with two counts of attempted murder, with anti-Jewish hatred considered an aggravating factor in the stabbings.

Suleiman is also charged with the attempted murder of a third man, Ishmail Hussein, reported to have been a friend of Suleiman. The alleged attack occurred prior to the Golders Green stabbings and will not be prosecuted as a hate crime.
