Russian drone strike kills Israeli boy, wounds mother in Kyiv
Daniel Umansky, 14, was killed at his family’s home in central Kyiv; Russian attacks on the capital left four dead and at least 27 injured
A 14-year-old Israeli boy, Daniel Umansky, was killed and his mother wounded when a Russian drone struck their home in central Kyiv.
The strike hit the family’s home in the Pecherskyi district around 8 a.m. Friday. His mother was evacuated for medical treatment, according to local reports.
Umansky held Israeli citizenship. His family had immigrated to Israel before returning to Ukraine about 20 years ago, the Hebrew-language Walla News reported.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the boy’s death and said the Israeli consul in Kyiv and its Department for Israelis Abroad were in contact with the family and providing assistance.
The Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine and Chabad representatives were also assisting the family. Chabad’s JRNU emergency network said it was coordinating with the family, the Israeli Embassy and ZAKA representatives in Israel to prepare for the possibility of bringing his body to Israel for burial.
The boy was among four people killed in repeated Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital Friday, local authorities said. At least 27 others were injured.
Overnight and morning drone strikes hit the Pecherskyi, Podilskyi, Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, killing the boy and injuring 20 others.
A later daytime drone strike hit an office building in the Solomianskyi district, killing three people and injuring seven others in the parking lot, local authorities said.
