Zelensky backs energy ceasefire after Trump announces Russia-Ukraine agreement
Several hours after the Trump announced the 'ceasefire,' Russia struck Kharkiv's main power plant

President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an 'energy ceasefire'.
It is currently unclear how the ceasefire was negotiated, with the White House refusing to provide details and neither Russia nor Ukraine having commented.
This declaration comes after Trump attempted to halt Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil infrastructure as oil prices continued to rise.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier that he would be willing to halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure if Russia also ceased targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
A Ukrainian official told the Financial Times following the announcement that it had not been consulted on Trump's declaration: "Nobody has heard [of the ceasefire]."
Zelensky later said, "Ukraine supports a ceasefire, and it is important that Russia supports it as well. We are awaiting details from the American side."
Prior to the announcement, Zelensky told Ukrainian media that if Putin agreed to a 60-day ceasefire, Ukraine would hold elections.
