Trump's BoP holds talks with Hamas as Iran war strains Gaza ceasefire - report
The talks held in Cairo aim to preserve the fragile truce and advance the postwar governance plan for Gaza

Envoys from US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace met representatives of Hamas in Cairo over the weekend in an effort to safeguard the Gaza ceasefire, according to three sources cited by Reuters. The discussions come as the truce faces mounting pressure following US and Israeli military operations against Iran.
The meeting marks the first publicly reported contact between Hamas and representatives of the Trump-led international body since the start of the Iran war.
Sources told Reuters the talks in Cairo were aimed at preserving the ceasefire and maintaining momentum for the postwar plan, which includes proposals for Gaza’s administration and reconstruction.
The initiative began with a ceasefire that took effect in October and formed the first phase of a wider peace framework for the territory.
The Gaza ceasefire has come under strain since the escalation of the regional conflict involving Iran. The broader war has complicated diplomatic efforts and diverted international attention away from the Gaza process, raising concerns among mediators about the stability of the truce.
The Board of Peace is tasked with coordinating international involvement in Gaza’s recovery and governance following the war. The initiative forms part of a larger US-backed plan intended to stabilize the enclave and manage the transition after the fighting.
