UTJ Faction won’t vote against Eisenkot-led government - report
It’s expected that the Degel HaTorah faction will, like Agudat Israel, not vote against an Eisenkot-led government
United Torah Judaism MKs Yitzhak Goldknopf and Yaakov Tesler will not vote against the formation of a government led by Gadi Eisenkot, sources close to United Torah Judaism told Israeli media.
The same sources indicate that the whole of the Agudat Israel faction within UTJ would abstain from voting against an Eisenkot-led government, which comprises four of UTJ’s seven MKs.
It’s expected that the Degel HaTorah faction will likewise not vote against an Eisenkot-led government.
The change was reportedly driven by the Ger Hasidic Rebbe, who believes that Netanyahu has completed his journey, although other senior rabbis within UTJ spoke out against allowing the left to grow stronger
The move puts Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a tough position, as without the Agudat Israel MKs, he will be unable to form a government by any calculation, a situation which will be made more difficult if the Degel HaTorah faction joins the abstentions.
