Israel to reinstate 'green pass' vaccination certificates
Despite outstanding vaccination campaign, Israel is scrambling to contain morbidity after emergence of delta
Israel's government on Thursday approved the reinstatement of the so-called "green pass" vaccination certificates in light of the hike in coronavirus infections in the country.
The plan, put forth by the so-called Corona Cabinet, is likely to be ratified by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's government on Sunday.
Those attending restaurants, parties, gyms, conferences, tourist attractions and synagogues will have to show the Health Ministry certificate at the entrance, according to the new rules.
Whereas at events such as weddings and Bar Mitzvas with over 100 attendees, all attendees over the age of 12 will be required to present either a certificate of vaccination, or a negative COVID test from the past 72 hours.
The ruling will go into effect next Thursday.
Despite its record-setting vaccination rollout, Israel is struggling with a resurgence of the virus associated with the highly infectious delta variant.
The number of serious cases, however, is at a mere 72 out of a population of over 9,000,000, according to the Health Ministry.
