58 injured in direct hit on residential complex in northern Israel

In another sleepless night for the residents of Israel's north, a missile fired overnight Thursday into Friday struck a compound of four private homes in the town of Zarzir, near Nazareth. 

Two people were moderately wounded, and 56 others sustained very minor injuries from glass shrapnel. They were evacuated for medical treatment at hospitals in the north, along with 15 people suffering from anxiety.

One home was severely damaged, and the other nearby houses were affected by the blast and shrapnel. Near the site of the impact, a stable was completely destroyed and a lifeless colt was found at the scene.

"In the mass casualty event from the fall in Zarzir, 30 injured people were admitted to the Emek Medical Center — 15 children and 15 adults. Among them, two are in moderate condition and will remain hospitalized, while the others are in mild condition and are being treated in the emergency medicine department for adults and children," the Emek Medical Center reported.

"From the scene in Zarzir, 28 casualties were evacuated to Rambam, 12 of them children. All the casualties are classified as light injuries, most of them suffering from anxiety," Rambam Hospital reported.

Magen David Adom medic Eran Avo recounted the scene, saying, "when we arrived at the scene, we saw destruction in several homes and shards of glass. At the site, we saw a 34-year-old woman who was suffering from a back injury caused by shrapnel and her condition is defined as moderate, and a 17-year-old girl who was lightly injured by shards of glass. We provided them with advanced medical treatment and evacuated them to the hospital. Additional MDA teams are currently at the scene and are treating several people suffering from anxiety."

Fire and Rescue incident commander, Chief Inspector Shay David, added, "the firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene and identified extensive destruction and commotion at the location. The firefighting teams immediately began searching for people trapped and rescuing them from the houses, alongside tackling a fire that broke out in the yard. Dozens of casualties were evacuated from the scene, including a woman who was moderately injured and the rest were lightly injured or suffering from anxiety."

Also Thursday night, a 17-year-old girl was killed in a car accident while she was running to a shelter in Rehovot after receiving a warning of an incoming rocket attack. She was hit by a passing vehicle on her way to the shelter.

"The girl was lying on the road unconscious, suffering from multiple injuries. We were told she was hit by a vehicle. We performed medical checks, but she showed no signs of life, and we had no choice but to pronounce her dead," MDA paramedic Shila Alfasi said.
