Cyclist killed after being struck by stolen vehicle in northern Tel Aviv
Police arrested the driver, a 24-year-old man from the Nablus area of the West Bank who was in Israel without a permit
A cyclist died after being struck by a stolen vehicle near Yunitsman Street in northern Tel Aviv, Israeli police announced Thursday.
The cyclist was critically injured and taken to a hospital, where medical officials pronounced him dead.
Police arrested the driver, a 24-year-old man from the Nablus area of the West Bank who was allegedly in Israel without a permit. Investigators believe he stole the vehicle before striking the cyclist.
Officers reportedly found a bag containing suspected vehicle-theft tools inside the car, including an ignition control unit, a hammer and devices used to break windows.
Traffic accident investigators were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
The suspect remains under investigation on suspicion of vehicle theft and involvement in the cyclist’s death.
