Israel, Greece hold joint naval drills amid rising tensions with Turkey

Two weeks ago, the Israeli and Hellenic navies conducted a joint maritime exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, the IDF announced on Thursday.

The exercise involved two Israeli missile ships and two Hellenic Navy frigates and was conducted as part of the ongoing cooperation between the two navies, aimed at aimed at strengthening operational coordination and enhancing their ability to operate effectively together.

The fleets conducted a variety of operational scenarios, including emergency situations and exercises involving the identification of and response to maritime threats.

Naval personnel exchanged knowledge and experience aimed at strengthening operational capabilities.


Commander of Flotilla 3, Cpt. T said "Such collaboration enhances the forces’ readiness to address a wide range of scenarios, strengthens the protection of Israel’s maritime borders, and further strengthens the Israeli Navy as a strategic asset to the State of Israel and its security."

The exercises took place amid deepening anxiety in Israel and Greece regarding Turkish expansionism in the Eastern Mediterranean. These exercises have been in the works since late 2025 when Israel, Greece, and Cyprus signed trilateral agreements aimed at countering Turkish influence.
