Police raid pre-wedding celebration in Umm al-Fahm to locate firearms

Israeli police raided a celebration held ahead of a wedding in Umm al-Fahm, northern Israel, on Saturday evening, following reports of possible gunfire at the event.

Images released after the intervention showed several guests lying on the floor among overturned chairs as police searched the venue.

Witnesses cited by Arab48 said officers arrived unexpectedly, used stun grenades and searched attendees. No suspicious items were reportedly found, and no arrests were made.

Police said the operation was launched after receiving information about suspected gunfire during the celebration. Officers conducted searches to verify the reports and locate any possible firearms. Their statement did not clarify whether any weapon was ultimately recovered.

Ali Adnan Barakat, a lawyer and member of the Umm al-Fahm municipal council, condemned the police intervention, saying that intimidating guests and disrupting a family celebration required accountability. He called for an investigation if the operation was not supported by sufficient legal grounds.

The incident came one day after police arrested an Arab couple during their wedding procession in southern Israel. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said the procession had deliberately disrupted traffic in the Negev.
