Religious council chairman and political "Shas" party member Gedaliyahu Ben Shimon was seriously injured in Ramat Gan suspected terror attack, Israeli police report

One suspect has been arrested after a man was seriously injured in a stabbing attack in Ramat Gan, Israeli police said on Wednesday. Authorities are examining whether the incident may have been a terror-motivated attack.
Police later reported that the victim was identified as the chairman of the religious council in Ramat Gan and a member of the "Shas" Ultra-Orthodox political party, Gedaliyahu Ben Shimon.
Police said officers from the Dan Sub-District and Israel Border Police units responded after reports to the emergency center of a suspect who stabbed the victim and fled the scene. During searches in the area, police located and arrested a suspect, a 20-year-old resident of Jatt Arab local council, who was taken in for questioning.
The victim, 47-year-old Ben Shimon, sustained serious injuries and was evacuated for medical treatment, according to medical officials.
Investigators are continuing to collect evidence at the scene as they work to determine the circumstances of the attack.
