'We identify a threat, but that does not mean that tomorrow morning we will be at war'

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s warning on Tuesday that Israel’s enemies might be preparing an attack prompted sharp criticism from opposition leaders and a demand for an urgent security briefing.
A military official told government ministers that security forces had identified a threat but cautioned against interpreting the assessment as a sign that war was imminent. “This does not mean that tomorrow morning we will be at war, but we must be prepared,” the official told i24NEWS.
Sources told i24NEWS that Netanyahu’s warning was based on information provided by the security establishment. They said it was unrelated to the prime minister’s brief visit to Abu Dhabi earlier this week.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid sought a meeting with Netanyahu, Shin Bet chief David Zini and Central Elections Committee chairman Justice Noam Solberg. His request came amid questions about the nature of the threat and what steps the government was taking ahead of the election.
Netanyahu’s office initially said the prime minister’s military secretary would brief Lapid. A meeting between Netanyahu and Lapid was subsequently scheduled for 11:30 pm.
