'We will not allow any terrorist army to establish on our border,' Netanyahu visits Mount Hermon in Syria
Israeli prime minister says Israel will retain security control along the Syrian frontier and remains committed to defeating Iran’s government
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Israeli military positions on Mount Hermon in Syria on Wednesday, declaring that Israel would prevent any hostile armed force from establishing itself near the country’s border.
Netanyahu was accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai. At an Israel Defense Forces post overlooking Syria, they received an operational briefing from Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo and 210th Division commander Brig. Gen. Yair Falai.
Speaking ahead of Rosh Hashanah, Netanyahu said Israel now exercises unprecedented control over the territory stretching from Mount Hermon to the Yarmouk River and westward to the Mediterranean.
“We will not allow any terrorist army to establish itself on our border,” Netanyahu said, describing Israel’s position in the area as one of the major achievements of what his government calls the “War of Rebirth.”
The prime minister also directed his remarks toward Iran, portraying Tehran as the central force behind the regional network opposed to Israel.
“The main work is to defeat the terrorist regime in Iran,” Netanyahu said. “We are very close to that. We know that the entire axis will fall once and for all. We are committed to doing it, and we will do it.”
Netanyahu concluded by wishing Israelis a happy new year and thanking Israeli soldiers serving in the area.
The remarks underscored the Israeli government’s stated intention to prevent Iran or Iran-aligned armed groups from gaining a foothold near Israel’s northern frontier. Netanyahu did not provide further details about possible future military operations or the duration of Israel’s presence in Syrian territory.
