The US State Department confirmed on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump will be meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week alongside the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
“The President is planning to sit down with the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I know that the President’s looking forward to doing that,” said State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert at a press briefing.
“The President looks forward to sitting down with the Israeli prime minister next week at the UN General Assembly.”
For his part, Netanyahu confirmed that he would be meeting with Trump, before his departure earlier this week to Latin America.
“From Mexico I will go to New York to speak at the United Nations General Assembly and there I will meet my friend, President Donald Trump,” Netanyahu said.
A high ranking official in the Palestinian Authority (PA) informed i24 News that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is also slated to meet with Trump in New York City during the UNGA meetings. The official added that there was no meeting scheduled to take place between Netanyahu and Abbas.
