The IDF says this unit is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, and contains several hundred soldiers
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have revealed a new version of a combat unit that will bring infantry, combat engineering, tanks and air power together as one to serve as testing ground for new fighting techniques and tactics, according to The Times of Israel.
This multi-dimensional unit is part of IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi's multi-year Tenufa (Momentum) Plan to make the military more deadly, and prepared for a variety of threats it expects to face.
“Its members are meant to know how to operate in all fronts of the war, with the central characteristic being a high level of fitness and the ability to locate, attack and destroy the enemy in all regions and on all levels,” the military said.
The IDF says this unit is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, and contains several hundred soldiers.
Troops are already being welcome to serve at their new base, whose location is currently unknown, and team-building exercises are scheduled to begin soon.
The military said intelligence and communications units would also be part of the detail.
