Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Wednesday became the latest signatory of the Abraham Accords to offer his country's and his personal congratulations to newly installed Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

In his letter, the monarch declared that his kingdom would continue to promote peace in the region, the Prime Minister’s Office announced.

"I take this opportunity to emphasize that Morocco has adhered to its role and efforts to bring about a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, to guarantee that all peoples in the region live side by side in a peaceful, stable environment," the king's letter added.

In response, Bennett, to whom the king personally extended “warm greetings and best wishes for great success” following his entry into office this week, responded that “Israel sees Morocco as an important friend and partner in advancing peace and security in the region.”

According to the PMO’s statement, Bennett added that he will “work to reinforce Israeli-Moroccan relations in all areas, for the well-being and prosperity of both peoples, whose friendship has been long-standing."

Israel and Morocco re-established ties in 2020 - which had been severed 20 years earlier in response to the second Intifada - as part of the Abraham Accords, which former President Donald Trump, along with his senior Middle East advisor Jared Kushner were instrumental in constructing.

Despite the warm greetings between the king and Bennett, last month, Morocco's Prime Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani, reportedly sent a personal note to Hamas' Ismail Haniyeh, following the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement following 11 days of violence, congratulating the Gaza-based terrorist group on “victory” over the “Zionist entity.”
