Argentina has officially declared Iran's Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization, the office of President Javier Milley announced on Wednesday. The decision makes Argentina the 41st country in the past year to designate the Iranian force as a terrorist entity.

The announcement comes as part of a broader diplomatic effort led by Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar. Sa’ar welcomed the move, saying, “I thank Argentine President Javier Milley for his decision to declare Iran's Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization. This decision joins his declaration of Hezbollah and Hamas as terrorist organizations and places Argentina under his leadership at the forefront of the free world in the fight against the Iranian terrorist regime and its branches.”

Argentina has historical context for the designation. The country was targeted by the Iranian regime in terrorist attacks on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 and the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in 1994, both of which resulted in numerous casualties.

Sa’ar emphasized the symbolic importance of Argentina’s decision, noting that “with this decision, President Milley — one of the greatest leaders of our generation — once again demonstrated moral clarity and an uncompromising commitment to the values of freedom and the fight against its enemies.”

The Revolutionary Guards, a branch of Iran’s military, have been increasingly designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries in the past year due to their involvement in regional conflicts and support for militant groups across the Middle East. Argentina’s designation follows similar moves by the United States, Canada, and several European countries.

By joining the international coalition of nations recognizing the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, Argentina is signaling alignment with global efforts to counter Iranian influence and its support for terror activities abroad.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry did not immediately provide details on the measures or sanctions that will accompany the designation, but officials indicated that the move is intended to strengthen international coordination against terrorism linked to Iran’s military forces.
