Herzog: Abraham Accords are 'just the beginning' as agreement marks its sixth anniversary
Jared Kushner, who helped broker the original agreements, said the accords proved a "different path is possible" and called for a renewed push toward regional cooperation
President Isaac Herzog marked the sixth anniversary of the Abraham Accords on Wednesday, writing on X that the milestone was "an important moment to reflect on the remarkable partnerships that we have built across our region."
"It is also a moment to look to the future and chart the road ahead together," Herzog wrote. "I firmly believe that this is just the beginning. Now is the time for us all to work to expand this circle of peace across the Middle East to the benefit of all our peoples."
Herzog credited the agreement to the team assembled under US President Donald Trump, thanking Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, for their role in brokering the accords.
Kushner, who served as a senior White House adviser during the accords' negotiation, wrote his own post reflecting on the anniversary, saying the agreement "opened a new chapter of peace, partnership, and prosperity in the Middle East" at a time when "many said it was impossible."

Kushner said the region had long been "trapped by old ideas and failed frameworks" that created incentives perpetuating division rather than resolving it. He said the idea behind the accords was simple: "instead of reinforcing the things that divide people, build bonds that bring them together," through increased understanding, expanded trade and investment, and deeper security cooperation.
Kushner argued the accords replaced a regional approach that "managed conflict rather than solved it" with one built on trade, security cooperation and shared interests. He said the framework has since delivered "billions in trade, joint innovation, new friendships and partnerships."

Looking ahead, Kushner said the Middle East is "once again at an inflection point," with what he described as breakthrough opportunities that "many will say are impossible." He said he believes the region can build "an even broader movement around cooperation, shared prosperity and security" to replace what he called "the failed ideas of the past."
"We surprised the world once," Kushner wrote. "With the right leadership, focus, patience and courage, I believe we can do it again."
