Israel opens embassy in Fiji as FM Sa’ar receives traditional ceremony welcome amid deepening ties
Fijian PM Sitiveni Rabuka called the opening the beginning of a "golden age" between the two countries and affirmed Israel's right to defend itself against terrorism

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar landed in Fiji ahead of the opening of Israel's embassy in Suva, where he was received in an ancient traditional ceremony in the presence of PM Sitiveni Rabuka. The ceremony, held for heads of state and high-ranking guests, included a prayer for Israel and was attended by diplomats, military personnel and senior officials.
During his visit, Sa’ar held meetings with Fijian President Naiqama Lalabalavu, PM Rabuka, FM Sakiasi Ditoka, and several other cabinet ministers. Agreements signed during the visit include a declaration of intent on national security cooperation and an agreement for cooperation in diplomatic training.

At a joint press conference alongside Prime Minister Rabuka, the PM said, "This is the beginning of a golden age between the countries. Our discussions have proven that the friendship between Fiji and Israel is not just a symbolic or historical relationship, it is dynamic." He added, "We recognize Israel's legitimate security concerns and accept its sovereignty and sovereign right to protect its citizens from terrorism and threats to its very existence."

For his part, Sa’ar praised Rabuka as well, calling him on X "a dear friend of Israel and the Jewish people and a visionary leader," and stating that the mutual decision to elevate relations "reflects a commitment to strengthen our friendship for future generations." He noted that the embassy opening comes just nine months after Fiji opened its own embassy in Jerusalem.
