Netanyahu to address UN General Assembly in New York next week
The Israeli prime minister is expected to return home before Sukkot after reconsidering an earlier decision to skip the annual gathering
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to New York next week to address the United Nations General Assembly, his office announced Monday.
Netanyahu had reportedly considered skipping this year’s gathering but ultimately decided to attend, viewing the high-profile speech as an opportunity to bolster his campaign ahead of Israel’s elections.
The prime minister is expected to return to Israel in time for the Sukkot holiday, which begins the following day.
The trip will follow Netanyahu’s July 27 visit to Washington at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. Before departing for that visit, Netanyahu said his White House talks would cover “all the issues on the agenda, foremost among them Iran.”
“Our goal is to maintain our security and also to expand the circle of peace around us,” he added.
During his stay in Washington, Netanyahu also attended the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham.
