Bank of Jerusalem recorded a significant drop in its stock value on Thursday, with the peak reaching 12.3%, following rumors circulating on social media linking the disappearance of bank employee Mali Yahalomi and her daughter Liel in Vienna. However, Bank of Jerusalem denies the rumors, and in the meantime, the decline in the bank’s stock value has stabilized at around 3%.

The bank moved quickly to reassure customers and the public, issuing a statement saying the affair has no impact on customers’ funds. “Following information and rumors that have surfaced recently, and in light of a thorough and comprehensive review conducted by the bank, we wish to clarify unequivocally that there is no concern whatsoever of embezzlement involving Bank of Jerusalem customers’ funds. Customers’ funds are safe and protected, and are held and managed in accordance with the law, binding procedures and the bank’s control systems," the statement said.

Earlier in the day, the bank's CEO sent a message to employees clarifying that there is no concern of embezzlement of bank funds, and there is no connection between the bank and Yahalomi's disappearance. The CEO said, "We understand that such an event raises concerns and uncertainty. It should be emphasized that, aside from the fact that she is a bank employee, no connection has been found between the event and the bank. A gag order has been placed on the case, and it is forbidden to pass on any information on the matter to any party whatsoever."

The rumors surrounding Bank of Jerusalem spread following reports that the two women had withdrawn cash before leaving Israel, and after reports that the Israel Police Commissioner ordered the domestic investigation transferred to YALAC, the National Unit for Combating Economic Crime within Lahav 433, after a gag order was imposed on the investigation. Yesterday, it was also decided to involve the Mossad in the investigation.
