Netanyahu cuts US visit short, will fly in for UN speech and leave immediately

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has significantly shortened his already brief visit to the United States.
He will now fly directly to New York on the day of his address to the United Nations General Assembly and depart immediately after delivering the speech, i24NEWS learns.
Netanyahu had originally been expected to begin his diplomatic visit in Texas before traveling to New York for his address on Thursday.
Two sources familiar with the plans also told i24NEWS that Netanyahu intended to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio before the speech. It is unclear whether that meeting will still take place following the decision to shorten the visit.
In July, i24NEWS reported that Netanyahu was considering skipping this year’s UN General Assembly. He later reversed course, reportedly concluding that the appearance could also benefit his election campaign.
The prime minister is expected to return to Israel in time for the Sukkot holiday, which begins the following day.
