Hundreds of Druze, Circassians protest outside Israel's Cabinet meeting
Demonstrators demand gov't budget they claim was promised to regional councils
Hundreds of Druze and Circassians protested Sunday in Israel’s capital of Jerusalem over distribution of funds to regional councils and the proposed so-called “National Law.”
The Yitshak Rabin road in Jerusalem was blocked in both directions by the police, allowing the demonstrators to march safely toward the government building offices.
Most demonstrators gathered outside the Foreign Ministry building, where the Cabinet held its first meeting of the week, Hebrew-language outlet Srugim reported.
Members of the Druze and Circassian communities demand a 200 million shekels budget that they claim was promised to them by the government.
In addition, they demand a revocation of what is named the Construction Law, also known as Kaminitz Law, which is aimed to crack down on illegal construction -- especially in the Arab sector.
However, leaders of the Druze and Circassian communities say the law causes a residence distress in their villages, according to Srugim.
