'Oh God, give victory to Gaza' worshippers chant

As many as 100,000 Muslim worshippers gathered on the Temple Mount Thursday morning for Eid al-Fitr prayers. Videos shared on social media showed crowds chanting “Oh God, give victory to Gaza,” and banners supportive of Hamas on display, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The morning prayers marked a somber Eid al-Fitr, one of the holiest days of the Muslim calendar, which celebrates the end of the month of Ramadan.

In the hours preceding the gathering, the Israeli military continued to target militant Islamists preparing to add to the more than 1,000 rockets fired toward Israel from the Gaza Strip exchange bombardments, amid intercommunal violence, which has spread throughout mixed cities in Israel, including in Jerusalem.

In front of the Dome of the Rock, worshippers unfurled banners depicting Hamas and other Gazan leaders. During the night, Jerusalem saw several incidents of violence. Police arrested 37 suspects for disturbances, throwing stones, assault and causing damage, The Jerusalem Post reported.
