Israeli 'Wonder Woman' Gal Gadot was sixth most-Googled person in 2017
Israeli actress Gal Gadot was the sixth most searched person on Google this year, according to the internet giant’s review of the 2017’s top trending searches.
Gadot, whose breakout role in this summer’s mega-blockbuster Wonder Woman launched her to international stardom, was also the third most-searched actor on Google.
The 32-year-old former Miss Israel and Israel Defense Force (IDF) fitness trainer was searched more times than the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump (#7), boxing legend Floyd Mayweather (#8), and former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn (#9) who rocked American politics earlier this year by pleading guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia.
Gadot was out-searched by disgraced NBC morning show host Matt Lauer (#1) who was fired over sexual misconduct allegations; American actress and royal-bride-to-be Meghan Markle (#2); and Italian television presenter Nadia Toffa (#3) who in November falsely reported that a dangerous nuclear experiment was being planned in Italy.
Gadot’s global internet popularity peaked in June, around the date of Wonder Woman’s US premiere. Searches of the Israeli actress spiked again in October, after her debut hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, and in November following the US premiere of Justice League.
According to Google’s annual ‘Year In Search’ data, Gadot was most popular in the Philippines, where she was the second-most-searched person overall. Singapore, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica also searched for Gadot more than the average country.
She was far less popular in her native Israel, where her stint on SNL was the most popular Gadot-related search query, and in the United States, where queries related to her Wonder Woman paycheck and her outspokenness against Wonder Woman co-producer Brett Ratner’s sexual assault allegations were the most searched.
Gadot was Miss Israel in 2004 and represented Israel in that year's Miss Universe contest.
Gadot is a proud Israeli and has spoken publicly about her time in the Israeli military.
During the summer of 2014 Gadot sparked a heated online debate about the summer's fighting between Israel and Hamas when she posted a Facebook photo of herself and her daughter lighting Shabbat candles.
