The games in Baku are a stepping stone for competitors striving to secure a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, delayed until this summer due to the coronavirus.
Many Israelis were happy to see some good news interrupting the politics and security tensions of late, with a number of individuals praising her efforts.
“Linoy Ashram never ceases to excel and amaze. Israeli pride, female pride, someone to look up to and see what each of us can be when she grows up,” Merav Michaeli, leader of the Labor Party tweeted.
“Linoy Ashram, you are a true champion! The people of Israel are proud of you and your achievements. Determination and perseverance are key; no one is born a star, they become one,” said Naftali Bennett, pausing for a moment in his efforts to form a coalition government, to tweet.
In March, Ashram made headlines by winning two gold medals and a bronze in the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup which took place in Bulgaria.
