Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Wednesday accused Israel's intelligence agency Mossad of framing the Islamic Republic through false flag operations, shortly after reports came out that Mossad alerted Denmark to an assassination plot the Iranians are believed to have planned in the Scandinavian country.

“Mossad’s perverse & stubborn planting of false flags (more on this later) only strengthens our resolve to engage constructively with the world,” the official wrote on Twitter accompanied by photos of him meeting with officials from Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

According to Israeli officials, Mossad presented Denmark with information regarding Tehran’s alleged plotted “attack” against three Iranian opposition figures residing in the Scandinavian country.

The Danish Security Intelligence Service known as PET said it “cannot comment further on the ongoing investigation.”

Israel has in the past claimed its secret services have saved Europe from several dozen major terrorist attacks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in January said “these could have been mass attacks of the worst kind that you have experienced on European soil,” adding that some involved civil aviation.

The intelligence provided by Israel’s spy agency to its Danish counterpart reportedly prompted the arrest of a Norwegian national of Iranian origin in Sweden earlier this month. Following this, on Tuesday Denmark recalled its ambassador over the incident.

"I have decided to recall Denmark's ambassador in Tehran for consultations... Denmark can in no way accept that people with ties to Iran's intelligence service plot attacks against people in Denmark," Danish Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen told reporters, adding that she would seek to push for thee EU to impose sanctions against Iran due to the planned attack.

"It is totally unacceptable that Iran or any other foreign state plans assassinations on Danish soil. Further actions against Iran will be discussed in the EU,” Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen wrote on Twitter.

At a press conference earlier in the day, PET chief Finn Borch Andersen remarked that "this is an Iranian intelligence operation that we believe was preparing a bomb attack in Denmark" against three Iranians suspected of belonging to the Arab Movement for the struggle for the liberation of Ahvaz.

Iran has denied the allegations and foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi has slammed it as a European conspiracy against the Islamic Regime.

Zarif's accusations against the Mossad came as Israeli television reported that over the last few days Iranian infrastructure and strategic networks had been attacked by a "violent" and "advanced" virus similar to that of Stuxnet.
