Authorities launch manhunt after 28 wounded in shooting at church in southern Jordan; government spokesman calls attack terrorism

Gunmen opened fire on mourners attending a funeral at a church in southern Jordan, killing six people and wounding 28, the country’s Public Security Directorate said.
Security forces launched a manhunt following Friday’s attack at Hamoud church in Karak governorate. Authorities said an investigation was underway and that further findings would be released as they became available.

Witnesses told state-owned broadcaster Al-Mamlaka that armed men stepped out of a vehicle and fired at mourners for several minutes before fleeing. One witness estimated that between 150 and 200 people were inside and outside the church when the shooting began.
Government spokesman Mohammad al-Momani described the shooting as a terrorist attack and said Prime Minister Jafar Hassan would chair a security meeting in Karak to oversee the response.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. The official casualty count revised an earlier state media report that seven people had been killed.
